Celebrations of Teaching and Learning:
During the week of April 9th, Nayatt School celebrated Reading Week. It was organized by Mrs. Bertonicini, the school librarian, and Dr. Carusi, the school reading specialist. They had many helping hands as we celebrated, “Reading Around the World”. Classrooms were provided with passports and students and their teachers visited most of the continents through books about the cultures. Maps were posted everywhere throughout the building. Passports were stamped.
Mrs. Gusetti arranged for a Chinese Acrobat to perform as part of our Fine Arts Theme-A Study of Asia. This was a perfect match for our Reading Week theme. The students loved this performance. Mrs. Bertoncini collaborated with the Nayatt PTO to have a Reading Week author visit from Kara LaReau who won the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor for her book, The Infamous Ratsos.
Ms. Muccino and the third grade helpers led an amazing Reading Week Town Meeting featuring trivia contests, presentations by Ms. Taft’s second graders on their research projects and by Mrs. Roberts Kindergarten students who taught us about their learning in science. The kindergarten students even performed a song for us.
The MAC Blue Team celebrated with books and breakfast, the second graders celebrated with books and blankets on the hall, guest readers visited classrooms throughout the week. Third graders read to second graders. It was a fun week with lots of learning. Please check out photos of the students in Mrs. Danielian’s class and Mrs. Cunningham’s class dressed as their favorite book characters and more pictures of Reading Week events on the Nayatt School website.
