The holiday season is upon, please check out important dates below. Thank you for your time and attention.
Teaching and Learning:
The current fourth graders and former third graders at Nayatt participated in the RICAS State Assessment last spring. The K-3 teachers and staff helped to prepare the third graders for success. 75% of the students in grade 3 at Nayatt were proficient in ELA (Reading and Writing) and 69% of the students in grade 3 at Nayatt were proficient in Math. In 2019, the third graders at Nayatt will again participate in the RICAS Assessment.
Please take this opportunity to review Barrington’s performance as compared to both Rhode Island and Massachusetts shared the Superintendent Update from Mr. Messore. As first time test-takers, the students did extremely well due to your ever diligent focus on teaching and learning. We look forward to engaging in continuous improvement and analyzing our current curriculum based on the initial baseline established by this assessment.
Rhode Island (RI) transitioned from the PARCC assessment to the RICAS in the Spring of 2018 for Math and Literacy (Reading and Writing). The RICAS is aligned with the Massachusetts Common Assessment (MCAS). RI made the switch because very few states continue to take the PARCC and Massachusetts (MASS) is a global leader in education.
MA has had a consistent curriculum framework and assessment system for over 20 years. The RICAS is the first time RI schools participated in this assessment. As such, an implementation dip in scores across the state was predicted and did occur. With that being said, Nayatt School demonstrated overall achievement at the top of RI, well beyond the state average and also exceeded the state average in MA.
There will be a workshop for parents to learn more about the RICAS Assessment, how schools use the data to improve teaching and learning and how to prepare your child for the assessment in the spring.
Have a great week!
