In light of another school shooting, I want to follow up on Mr. Messore’s message and reassure all families that the children are safe and protected at Nayatt School. We are straightforward and honest with your children if they ask questions. We reassure them of ways the staff at Nayatt works to keep them safe.
Our Crisis Team-Cathy Fales and Fran Taft (head teachers), Nichole Collins (School Nurse), Mr. Marchetti and Mrs. Brousseau (Special Education), Mrs. Bertoncini (Librarian), Mr. DiPierro (Custodian), Katie McBride (Assistant to the Principal), and Tracey Whitehead (Principal) are meeting regularly. We are preparing for our end of year drills, there are five of them. This helps us to continually get feedback on how to improve practices. The Barrington Schools Resource Officer, Josh Melo is in consultation with us.
Most of the drills are fire drills, but there is another evacuation drill to conduct. We will be doing this in conjunction with the Barrington Police Department and will provide feedback to parents. Team members participate in special training with FEMA as members of this team. They take their role very seriously and we know our needs as a building.
Thanks for your patience and support as we check identification at dismissal and ask for information while you are outside the door. Please know that only front office staff is allowed to let parents into the building. This is why our staff will ignore you and wait for the office. Safety and Security is a priority for us.
