BMS Spotlight on Learning:

This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Dr. Brian Fernandes, Mrs. Maureen Kelsey, Mrs. Julie Gladding, and Mrs. Diana Ouellette for the leadership during last week’s data days. Brian, Maureen, Julie, and Diana did a great job presenting data and leading data based decisions. Thank you for your leadership and guiding us in making the best decisions for our students.

This week, from an anonymous source, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Ms. Becky Trahan. Becky is always willing to help all members of our learning community with our technology needs. She is always diligent, timely, and thoughtful. Thank you Becky for being such an important role in our learning community.

Assistant Principal Search Update:

I am pleased to inform you that last week our School Committee appointed Ms. Rebecca Silveira as our new Assistant Principal at Barrington Middle School. Becky will be starting at BMS on November 4, 2019. She is coming from Ferry Middle School in Johnston where she was an Assistant Principal, and prior to that, she was a teacher leader at Portsmouth Middle School. She is excited to be joining our learning community and supporting all of you. Finally, I would like to publicly thank our search committee for their hard work, dedication, professionalism, and commitment to finding our new Assistant Principal.

RICAS Results:

I can’t begin to express how proud I am of our learning community with regards to our RICAS scores. In one year, we improved from 70% to 80% in ELA and from 60% to approxiately 70% in mathematics. What I am most impressed with is that our focus has been, and will always be, teaching and education the whole child. We do what we do because we know it is best for our students, and not for test scores. Over the next few months there will be plenty of time to dive into the data and discuss opportunities for growth and improvement, but for now, I congratulate our students, families, and teachers for a job well done!

BMS Yearbook:

Student Resource Officer Wyrostek News:

Drop-off and pick-up of students is prohibited on the side streets off of Lincoln Avenue (ie: Harrison, Peck, Brown or Standish Avenues).  It is a danger to students and drivers to have students crossing in the middle of Lincoln Avenue and these streets are not wide enough to accommodate parked vehicles.  Parking creates a safety hazard as Emergency Vehicles cannot safely access homes on those streets.

BMS Science Olympiad:

Interested in science?  There’s still time for students to check out the BMS Science Olympiad after school group.  They meet each Wednesday after school in the 6th grade break out space. Click here for more information.

Fitness Professionals:

Are you a health and wellness role model in our East Bay community?  Our PE/Health initiative for the 2019-2020 school year is looking for volunteers to share their passion for fitness during “Fitness Fridays” at BMS!  For more information, click here for details.

BMS Seeking Crossing Guards:

If you are interested in serving as a paid BMS Crossing Guard during the morning and/or afternoon, please contact Doug Fiore at 245-5000 or fiored@barringtonschools.org. Position entails approx. 10 hours per week at $15.45/hr.  We are hopeful that the additional crossing guards will aid in the safety of our students coming and leaving campus. Thank you for considering.

BMS Office Information:

The BMS Office is open daily from 8:00 am until 3:45 pm.  As always, students need a note from home given to the office before homeroom on days when they will be dismissed early.  We are very impressed by the number of students, especially 6th graders, that have followed our procedure and come to the office on their own to meet their parents for dismissal!  Well done!
