7th Grade Family Information Night for 8th Grade Course Offerings:

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 7-8 pm in the BMS Auditorium we will be hosting a special night for our current 7th-grade families. The goal for this night is to review unique 8th-grade programming. In particular, we will review:

  1. BMS World Language Elective Program (new to the 2025 - 2026 school year)

  2. Pre-Algebra/Algebra Course Considerations and Selection Process

  3. 8th Grade Allied Art Course Offerings and Selection Process

We do encourage families to attend this special event as there is new information for our 7th-grade families to consider for their rising 8th-grade children.

BMS Eagles Gazette:

Our latest e-newspaper is PACKED with great information!  Our students work really hard on the Gazette.  Check it out here!

One Amazing Night at BMS:

  • Wednesday, June 5th, 5:30-7:30

One Amazing Night is for all BMS and community members to enjoy! This fun evening will be filled with family games, food, showcased student work, student performances and student art displays. Please VOLUNTEER and help make this evening a success BMS One Amazing Night Volunteer Signup Link

BMS Community Service Club:

Our last drive of the year!  The BMS Community Service Club is having a toiletry drive.  With the federal cuts to organizations such as the RI Food Bank and therefore, Tap-In, the need is greater than ever to help Tap-in however we can. The mail carriers are having their big food drive in 2 weeks, so the kids thought it would be helpful to hold a Toiletry Drive. The drive will run until May 9th.  Items needed:  toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, wet wipes, tissues, soap, deodorant and shampoo.  Your help is greatly appreciated!  Items may be left in the baskets outside each classroom.

Orientation for 8th grade families at BHS:

An orientation for new and current 8th grade parents and students is set for Thursday, May 8th at 7:00 PM in the John R. Gray Auditorium.

The orientation on the 8th is focused on student life at Barrington High School and the various opportunities, clubs and activities available for students. In addition to all students being academically successful, one of our school goals is ensuring all students feel a strong sense of belonging to Barrington High School; as such, we will also discuss key strategies to help students balance academics, activities and the social aspects of student life at Barrington High School.

All students and families will begin the evening in the auditorium with a welcome and overview. Afterwards, students will be assigned to small groups for tours of the building and a classroom-based discussion on what to expect as a BHS student. Parents and families will remain in the auditorium for a panel discussion from administration, student activities, the counseling office, senior project and other key student-related groups.

Memorial Day Essay Contest:

Please select one of the three prompts below and write a  250 - 500 word essay. The authors of the winning essays (3-4 essays will be selected) will read their responses at the conclusion of the Barrington Memorial Day Parade. We aim to have a 6th grade winner, a 7th grade winner, and an 8th grade winner.

Your essay can be emailed to Mrs. Dalessio (dalessiol@barringtonschools.org) by Wednesday, May 14, 2025. A team of teachers will review submissions and make the selections. Please email Mrs. Dalessio if you have any questions.

Prompts:

Honoring Heroes: Reflect on the importance of Memorial Day in honoring the sacrifices of military heroes. Why is it essential for us to remember and honor them?

The Meaning of Sacrifice: Discuss the concept of sacrifice as it relates to the brave men and women who have served in the military. What can we learn from their selflessness?

Remembering the Fallen: Explore the significance of remembering and honoring those who have lost their lives in service to their country. How does Memorial Day help us keep their memory alive?

BPS Day Without Hate:

Every spring we invite the entire Barrington community to participate in A Day Without Hate. This year's event will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025. Here's what we're doing this year:

~ BMS Student Activities ~

BMS Spring Tennis:

BMS Spring Tennis has started! There will be a new Sign-Up Genius each week and all abilities and grade levels may sign up for any day (Monday-Wednesday) but please limit your student's sign up to one day per week to give others a chance to participate. The Spring Tennis Program will last for five weeks and each week will focus on a different set of skills culminating in some games between classmates. There is no cost to participate! Again, there will be a new sign-up sheet in the Connected Newsletter each week so keep an eye out for that. Please reach out to Riley Spillane (spillaner@barringtonschools.org) with any questions.

HERE is the Sign-Up Genius for Week 2

BMS Music Bingo:

Join us on Friday, May 16 from 6-8 pm in the BMS cafeteria for BMS Music Bingo Night!  Sponsored by our BMS Best Buddies group, BMS Music Bingo is a game that combines the classic bingo format with a musical twist! Instead of calling out numbers, a host plays music clips, and players try to identify the song and mark it off on their bingo card. The first player to complete a row, column, or diagonal is the winner and shouts "Bingo!".   $5 entrance fee for unlimited games, prizes will be awarded!  Snacks and drinks available for purchase.  Proceeds to the BMS Unified Theatre program and BMS Best Buddies.

Donations can be dropped off at the BMS Office from May 14-16. Please label “Music Bingo” Please click the link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/BMSMusicBingo

BMS Garden:

The garden is off and growing! Students and parents planted spinach, lettuce, kale, radish, and swiss chard- all crops that love cooler weather. We also have a mini greenhouse of tomato, cucumber, and squash.

Donations of vegetable plants are greatly appreciated- all produce is donated to TapIn.

Please let Ms Texeira know if you'd like to get involved. texeiraj@barringtonschools.org

He also treats his peers and teachers with respect. Overall, I think Beckett Tanzman should have the BMS Spotlight, and for good reason! (Nominated by a member of our BMS Learning Community)

This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mr. Josh Anderson. I just wanted to express how well the transition has been going with Josh Anderson in 7th grade. He jumped right into working with students and has been very positive and willing to collaborate over the past month. I'm impressed with how quickly he is learning the "flow" of things (IEP meetings, FastBridge, point sheets, progress monitoring, etc.). Students report that they really enjoy working with him. (Nominated by Ms. Abigail Halnon)
