👷‍♀️👷 SOWAMS SCHOOL THIRD GRADERS DESIGN DREAM HOUSES: Last week, Sowams School third graders in Mrs. Adamson's class finished their math module on area by designing their own dream houses! This deep learning activity transformed students into junior architects and construction workers applying knowledge about area to create the house of their dreams. Students learned that math - area, in particular - is an important part of our everyday lives and even had the opportunity to discuss different careers, like construction, that use math on a regular basis. Thanks, Mrs. Adamson, for making this unit a "blast"! 🦺

🦅 STUDENT ATHLETES COMPETE AT STATE AND DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: Our Barrington High School Eagles were been busy competing at Rhode Island Interscholastic League state and divisional championship meets on Saturday! The girls indoor track team finished seventh in their respective state championship meets, while the boys and girls swimming teams both achieved high scores in the divisional championship. 🎖BHS BOYS INDOOR TRACK ARE STATE CHAMPS: On Saturday, February 17, the Barrington High School boys indoor track team ended a very strong winter season by becoming the Rhode Island Interscholastic League's Indoor Track & Field State Champions! This is the first state championship title ever for a BHS boys track team. Congratulations to our student athletes whose dedication and commitment, combined with many hours of hard work, made history for BHS boys track! 🎭 UNIFIED THEATER SHOWCASES TALENT AND INCLUSION: Unified Theater is an inclusive student organization that dissolves typical barriers between youth through transformative, school-based performing arts. Members of Barrington High School's Unified Theater club have spent many hours together writing, editing, blocking, directing, and practicing this school year. On Friday, February 9, BHS Unified Theater performed their student-led and student-written production of Teenage Dream: TV, featuring scenes from classic teenage television shows and movies, to an excited audience! 🏒BHS ALUMNI APPRECIATION NIGHT: Once an Eagle, always an Eagle! More than 40 alumni of the Barrington High School hockey team were in attendance for the hockey team's Alumni Appreciation Night celebration and the fiftieth year of varsity hockey at BHS. Alumni are an important part of the BHS hockey program. Each year, generous alumni donations help fund the Lt. Jeffrey R. Scharver USMC Award, the Patrick Cannon Memorial Award, the John Hall Memorial Scholarship Award, and the Scott H. Andrews Memorial Scholarship. Alumni donations also help support some costs associated with Barrington High School's robust hockey program.

🦖DINOSAURS ROCK VISITS BPS: Second graders across our district have been building their literacy and science skills while learning about fossils and paleontology. This week, they went on a Jurassic journey with DINOSAURS ROCK! Thank you to our Primrose Hill School, Nayatt School, and Sowams School PTOs for bringing this prehistoric presentation to Barrington! 🦕

🥇BHS BOYS INDOOR TRACK WINS DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP: Barrington High School boys indoor track team won five events overall at the Metropolitan Division Championship this week, making them Rhode Island Interscholastic League division champs! Congratulations to all members of the boys indoor track team for this hard-earned accomplishment! Special congrats to student athletes Joe, Brandon, Myles, Ethan, Daniel, Brooks, Marius, and Henry for placing first in their events. 🧑‍💻SAVE THE DATE: VIRTUAL STRATEGIC PLAN FOCUS GROUP: Barrington Public Schools is developing a new strategic plan that will guide our district's goals, programs, and budgets for the next 3-5 years. It is important that members of our BPS community participate in this process! 🏗SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION STAGE II UPDATE: The next deadline for Barrington's Necessity of School Construction application is approaching! Tecton Architects, p.c., Downes Construction Company, and the Barrington School Building Committee have been hard at work preparing for Stage II for submission to the Rhode Island Department of Education by February 15. 🏛 CONGRESSMAN AMO VISITS BHS: Barrington High School had a special guest from Capitol Hill this week! On Tuesday, Congressman Gabe Amo visited Mr. Scott's U.S. Government class and helped students make meaningful connections between the democratic process and their classroom learning. He spoke with students about the challenges facing Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District and how the federal government works with state and local governments. Rep. Amo also shared advice with BHS students interested in pursuing a career in public policy. Thank you, Congressman Amo and Mr. Scott, for providing this fantastic learning experience!

On Friday, January 5, the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) released its 2022-2023 school accountability and improvement results, which includes Rhode Island’s Star Rating. Barrington Public Schools is proud to share that our schools account for 22% of all 5 Star ratings earned across the state of Rhode Island! Five of our six schools earned the highest rating of 5 Stars, which was known as commended under the previous accountability system. One of our schools received a rating of 4 Stars, which reflects achievement in the top 20% of Rhode Island schools and indicates opportunities for continuing growth. Only fifty schools, including all six schools in our district, received a rating of either 4 Stars or 5 Stars. 🏐BHS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL SPOTLIGHT: Congratulations to Barrington High School girls volleyball for being named this week's Showcase Cinemas High School Team of the Week! This recognition acknowledges the achievements and community dedication of Rhode Island Interscholastic League athletic teams. Members of our BHS girls volleyball team are kind and tenacious. As teammates, they have supported one another and contributed to important causes like community service and breast cancer awareness fundraising.

🏒HMS STUDENT COUNCIL GIVES BACK: It's giving season and our Barrington Public Schools students take giving seriously. Hampden Meadows Elementary School Student Council recently conducted a toy drive to help provide holiday gifts for children at Hasbro Children's Hospital. When the toy drive came to a close on December 15, the Hampden Meadows community had filled three extra large boxes with toy donations! Did you know that the Providence Bruins also run a toy drive for Hasbro Children's Hospital during the month of December? Last weekend, HMS Student Council members attended a Providence Bruins game (and participated in Chuck-a-Puck!) and made important connections between their acts of service and the power of community giving.

🏃‍♂️RIIL SPOTLIGHTS BHS TEACHER: The Rhode Island Interscholastic League has named Barrington High School history teacher and coach, Mr. Bill Barrass, as December's Educator Spotlight honoree! Mr. Barrass's career as an educator and coach in our Barrington schools spans twenty years! He has taught at BHS since 2012 and spent nearly a decade at Barrington Middle School before that. He has also been head coach of BHS boys track & field since 2003 and assistant coach of BHS boys cross country since 2006.
