Nayatt News Update 10.30.2020

Empowering All Students to Excel

Dear Nayatt Families,

Thanks so much for the wonderful donations to our teachers from Amazon Wishlists established by our PTO.  Packages arrive daily.  They are truly appreciated.

Things are challenging for the Nayatt Staff due to the many RIDOH guidelines for social distancing and several staff out each day for quarantine, COVID-19 symptoms, those waiting for test results, etc.  Classroom teachers lose their prep period or recess break daily.  This time is incredibly valuable for planning and set up as we juggle “in person” and “distance learners”. Teachers need to leave at the end of the day for cleaning purposes so there is less time at school for prepping materials.  Please know that the teachers and staff are going above and beyond to support our children.  They are amazing.  They offer help and support with great kindness.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in helping out at the school as a lunch/recess monitor, please see the information below.

Lunch/Recess Monitors:

  • The hours are 11:15-1:15 PM.

  • You can work as many days as you are able.

  • The pay is around $12 per hour.

  • You supervise students at recess in one of four stations-Playground, Blacktop, Basketball, and Field or in their classroom during lunch-passing out lunches, supervising handwashing, reading a story or playing one on the classroom monitor.

  • The students have recess materials.

  • You will need to complete paperwork at the School Administration Office and to get a BCI check.

  • Feel free to email me with any questions Tracey Learned

Mask Wearing:

Several parents have asked me to remind our walkers' parents to wear their masks even after they drop off their kids. The sidewalks near Nayatt are very narrow. With the positive case numbers going up, everyone needs to take extra precautions to protect the school community. It's also important to set good examples for our little ones.

Very Important-Arrival & Dismissal Safety Needs:

  • Please be sure to advise grandparents, babysitters, and nanny’s to do the following:

    • Follow the directions of staff.  There are 6 lanes of moving traffic.

    • Do not get out of the vehicle, ever, this is very dangerous.

    • It is a driveway, there is one way in and one way out, all traffic goes right onto Nayatt Road.

    • Do not change lanes while we are loading cars.

Inclement Weather Dismissal:

  • The school district has purchased a second pod to store materials that are currently in our multi-purpose room.

  • This will open up some space for children to wait.

  • We are looking to add canopies and our tent back to the front of the building.

  • We have to keep things moving the best we can, buses arrive around 2:30 PM.

  • Please have those signs with your child’s name in your windows or on dashboards, this really helps us.

Holiday Travel:

RIDOH guidance on COVID/Travel  This may require a quarantine and we want parents to be fully aware of the expectations.  Thank you for your time and attention.

Upcoming Events:

  • Election Day, Nov. 3rd-No School Students, Nayatt is a voting location.

The Nayatt PTO:

How can I support Nayatt School?

  • Major fundraisers cannot be held this year including-Enrichment, the Nayatt 5K, the Book Fair, and others.

  • Please consider supporting our PTO in the following ways:

When can my child participate in Distance Learning?

  • Students who are out sick or being monitored for covid symptoms may participate in Distance Learning, if they are able.

  • Students are not allowed to participate in Distance Learning at random.  This is carefully followed and documented and can be cause for an attendance investigation.

  • If your child needs to be home for illness, try to email the office staff and the classroom teacher so we can mark your child, “virtually present” and make sure they can access the classroom.

  • Students who are on vacation are considered an unexcused absence and will make up work on their return, this is district policy.
