Dear Families,
We wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with a reminder about the process for vacation and learning models as we approach April vacation and the end of the school year. Please notify the school if you are traveling at any point during the remainder of the school year.
The District Re-Entry Committee has made the following adjustment to the travel restrictions:
Families who travel to states with Rhode Island travel restrictions during April vacation will not need to select the four-week distance learning option who are prepared to return to in-person learning at the end of the quarantine period with a negative BiNax or PCR test result. (Note PCR is required for close contacts to positive cases).
Families who travel for purposes other than vacations outside of school vacation periods AND plan on distance learning while away will continue to need to request four calendar weeks of distance learning through the school administration. Any day that a student does not attend distance learning will be recorded as an unexcused absence.
If you must travel outside of the planned vacation week (April 19 - April 23) and want to distance learn during your time away, please complete the following steps:
Submit the Student Learning Model Change Request Form
Email Tracey Learned and Nichole Collins with your request and the dates of your child’s travel and location
They will respond with the date your child may resume their original learning model
If you must travel outside of the planned vacation and do not wish to engage in the 4-week distance learning model change, please know the following:
Your child will accrue unexcused absences for attendance purposes
Your child will not be allowed into live Zoom classroom sessions during their vacation
Your child will be eligible for distance learning during their 10-day quarantine
Your child may access the teacher(s) Canvas page for assignments and school work
Travel Quarantine Requirements: Families who travel internationally, to the islands or territories, or to a state on the Rhode Island Restricted list will be required to quarantine their child for 10 days. The 10 days begin the day after returning to Rhode Island. On day 8 or later, the child must be tested using a Binax or PCR. If the results are negative, they should provide a copy to the school nurse and return to school on day 11.
