Nayatt News Update 9.25.2021
Empowering All Students to Excel

Dear Nayatt Families,

It is my intent to send out the weekly update on Friday evenings so parents have the time over the weekend to review it and plan for the upcoming week. I apologize for the decreased time to review, but some family needs and obligations have prevented me from doing so in the past two weeks.

Upcoming Events:
Virtual Open House-Wednesday, September 29th, 6-7:30 PM

  • Open House will be thirty minutes long. It is a general presentation about communication with families, the daily schedule, and curriculum tools and resources to give you an insight into your child’s day.
  • If you have any questions specific to your child, please email the teacher to set up a separate phone conference or zoom meeting to discuss needs.  Thank you.

The Schedule is as follows:

  • 6-6:30 PM-Meet with K and 1 Teachers
  • 6:30-7:00 PM-Meet with 2 and 3 Teachers
  • 7:00-7:30 PM-Specialists, Special Educators and Special Subject teachers as well as support staff will hold office hours.
  • 6-7:30 PM-Mrs. Learned will be available as well.
  • Zoom links for Special Subject teachers, Specialists, and Support Staff will be provided prior to the event.

Staff Updates at Nayatt School:

  • Mrs. Lewis, our new PE teacher, is at Nayatt on Thursdays and Fridays.
  • Mrs. Ducharme has shifted to HMS because of scheduling needs.
  • Ms. Kristen Laferty, our new Music teacher, will be joining the Nayatt Staff on October 5th.
  • Mrs. Flaherty, our Nayatt Building Intern, has been doing a wonderful job providing the music curriculum to our students with the help of Ms. Ducharme.
  • Mrs. Allen will be shifting from Kindergarten to a Grade 1 intern position for the upcoming weeks while we work to secure another Building Intern.
  • Mr. Murphy is our K intern and Ms. Erin Saltzman is our long term sub in Kindergarten.  They are a great support and team.  We are still in search of another Kindergarten intern.

All of the K-3 schools are in search of interns.

  • The person needs to be certified as an early childhood educator or an elementary educator.  They work every day subbing in classrooms, working with small groups, and helping with building needs.  The person works from 7:45 AM-2:45 AM.  The job is posted on School Spring RI.
  • The K-3 schools are also in need of substitute teachers.  This can be found on the School Spring site as well.
  • We are so thankful for our lunch/recess monitors, Ramona Mello and Hina Saeed.  They are wonderful with our kids.

October 6th-Nayatt School Picture Day

  • Photos are taken outdoors with Coffee Pond.
  • Parents will be able to order online in advance of the day.  For more information click here
  • We will be sending the ordering information home on Monday.
  • Mrs. Arden, our PTO Picture Day Coordinator, will be looking for volunteers to help with this event.  Thank you for considering.

Feinstein Leadership School Update:

  • We are a Feinstein Leadership School and we participate in his campaign to help fight hunger.
  • We collaborate with Deb Thurston at the food bank at TAP IN located below the library.
  • TAP IN means to “touch another person in need”.
  • Our Feinstein Good Deed Journals will be going home with the students soon.
  • They have their Feinstein Jr. Scholar cards give them access to some wonderful places such as the Mystic Aquarium for free.
  • The journals also have a golden ticket; if a student at Nayatt School has their ticket number pulled by Mr. Feinstein, the school can receive a $5,000.00 donation.
  • Our Kindergarten classes will be starting their Kindness Trees.
  • For more information about being a Feinstein Leadership School, please see the link below.

COVID 19 Testing:

  • Nurse Collins and two CNAs completed our first round of COVID 19 testing at Nayatt on Friday.
  • It was a huge success.  We had no positive cases.
  • The students were so amazing, many shared their stories of having been tested multiple times before Friday’s testing. They were so calm and brave.
  • Please know that we did have a student who was anxious and did not want to test and we did not force the issue and sent the child back to class.

COVID-19 Protocols

  • Please be sure to wear a mask on school grounds.  There are lots of people close together at pick up and drop off areas.  Thank you.
